The origins of Asabiraki trace back to 1871 (Meiji 4), when the seventh-generation Murai Genz?, a former retainer of the Nambu domain, left behind the life of a samurai and began brewing sake at the current location. The name “Asabiraki” is said to reflect both his fresh start as a merchant and the dawn of a new era in Meiji Japan.Asabiraki has since been awarded the prestigious Gold Prize 25 times at the Annual Japan Sake Awards. The refined skills and spirit of the Nambu Toji tradition live on today through the expertise of the current master brewer, Urata.
